From my friend Shaas

God Exists – A Nice Story

A man went to a barber shop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: “I don’t believe that God exists.”
“Why do you say that?” asked the customer.

“Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn’t exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can’t imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.”

The customer thought for a moment, but didn’t respond because he didn’t want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”

“How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber. “I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don’t exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.”

“Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!”- affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens is that people don’t go to Him and do not look for Him. That’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”

A gigantic “Thank You” to Tom Egenes who came to Jupiter to spend the day giving 8 friends and myself a seminar practicing Sanskrit and discussing Maharishi’s translation and knowledge of these beautiful expressions. Being in the company of this small group of devoted, pure-heart people and experiencing the final levels of the expressions was really divine! I am very inspired and up-lifted and the most amazing thing is that the transference to this point was just a matter of attention and hearing again what I know to be true. It is all so simple and lively and fresh. I have to laugh at myself for getting so complicated sometimes. It really is all about seeing the big picture and transcending and then completely enjoying whatever comes. A million thanks to Tom for re-awakening that voice inside that has seemed to be on vacation for the last month or so! Hi again!! Namaste and Jai Guru Dev.

THERE’S A LIGHT

THERE’S A LIGHT IN YOUR EYES,

IT’S A LIGHT I KNOW

BEYOND THE WORDS, BENEATHE THE SOUNDS,

A PLACE I LIKE TO GO

IF I FEEL AFRAID, WHEN I’M NOT QUITE SURE

THERE’S A LIGHT THAT’S IN YOUR EYES

AND IT’S A LIGHT I KNOW.

THERE’S A LOVE THAT’S IN YOUR HEART

IT CARRIES ALL YOUR DREAMS

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU’VE BEEN

AND ALL THAT YOU BELIEVE

DEEP INSIDE THAT HEART, LIES TRUTH IN EVERY PART

NO MATTER WHERE YOU TRY TO GO

THERE’S A LOVE I KNOW

Remembering a talk with Manose
February 13, 2010

When I was putting the musicians together for Light at the Door, I sent a song to a well-known bansuri flute player. This was a new arena for me but it was lovely to be speaking with him. He was driving  his car along the coast of California, playing my original version of “Ya Devi” in the background. I could tell he was having a great time – driving, surrounded by the ocean air, with the backdrop of the hills and the gorgeous valleys, listening to a song of Mother Divine. I could feel the freedom of those moments as we were listening together, experiencing our 2 oceans as one. It was very cool. We were laughing and then he said, “It’s all about the longing isn’t it! I would love to play on this.” It took my breath away because that is exactly what it is. The feeling when I sing the songs of the Veda…Veda Leela…the song of life… is just that, the longing. The longing for the beauty of the Divine that is so lively, deep in our hearts, the expressions, waiting to be born and re-manifested into this life, the source, course and goal of our very own Divine nature. Sometimes I am just washed over with so much beauty that I cannot believe I am so fortunate to be on this earth. Born in the image and likeness of God – one and the same. How can we ever in our small way say thank you for this life? And this is the very reason I am so grateful I hear the songs. They are the sounds of the wordless motion within the pulses in the sweet melodies of  heaven. We, the music-makers, I think, we are just listening and  repeating what we hear. Tonight, on this Maha Shiva Ratri – the Great Shiva night, I promise to listen more attentively and surrender to every moment more and more.

I started this day writing on facebook :   “Ahhh, the way beautiful music moves my heart..I am so much better all the way around when I am in this space. There is no up or down – no inside or out – no charge, no retreat…just the fullness of this moment where I just STAY! ”      And tonight I end with:  Father, thank you so for this creation, for the knowledge that is available to us, for the emotions that move us, and for the deep silence that contains all That is and underlies every melody that is born to sing your praise.

Notes on my videos
February 2, 2010

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for the notes I have received on the song videos. I am very appreciative and happy to bring the music to you in this way. I know I should focus a bit more on sales ( so says my bud Phyllis – who truly tries to look after me on this matter!) but a gift is something to be given and it’s hard for me to not. I also want to say an even bigger thank you to the folks who have enjoyed the videos and purchased the cd!!! This is a gift to me as I am looking forward to creating more recordings!
I so love hearing from you all – your heart and vision inspires me!!!

Full Moon Night
January 30, 2010

On this beautiful full moon night I am finally once again inspired by the brilliance and potential of this life. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and love.
Purnam adah purnam idam purnat purnam udachyate
Purnasya purnam adaya purnam evavashishyate.

“That is full: this is full. From fullness, fullness comes out.
Taking fullness from fullness, what remains is fullness.”

Just look at the glorious moon tonight to know this truth. It is easy to fall into the fullness of the moon. It is welcoming and inviting..so easy to behold! I am cancer rising so I see the moon as pure emotion.( actually have no choice in this matter – haha!) It is silent and brilliant and completely white and pure – the essence of God!
I am humbled as I sing this song.
love to all

the paths are many
the truth is one
the names of God are many
God is one
love thy neighbor as thyself
Jai Sita Ram

IN A MOTHER’S EYES
THE WORLD IS VAST AND WIDE
AN ENDLESS RIVER FLOWS
WHERE HER LOVE AND WISDOM LIE.
AS THE COLOR OF EACH DAY
BECOMES CRYSTALIZED AND CLEAR
SHE KNOWS THAT TIME IS NOTHING BUT
A PRECIOUS MOMENT TO BE HERE.
IN A MOTHER’S EYES
THERE IS A STORY TOLD
OF MAJESTY AND BRAVERY
AND OF LETTING GO.

IN A FATHER’S HEART
REST ALL HIS HOPES AND DREAMS
A PROMISE TO PROVIDE
AND PROTECT ALL HE BELIEVES.
HERE ON BORROWED TIME
HE KNOWS WE’RE ALL JUST PASSING BY
BUT PASSING BY GIVES TIME ENOUGH
TO SHARE A LOVE THAT NEVER DIES.
IN A FATHER’S HEART
THERE IS A STORY TOLD
OF MAJESTY AND BRAVERY
AND OF LETTING GO.

NOW WE LIGHT OUR LIGHT FOR RORY
AS HE SPREADS HIS WINGS ACROSS THE SKY
SAILING THROUGH ALL OF HEAVEN’S GLORY
WITH THE ANGELS BY HIS SIDE
AND WE HEAR HIS SONG OF FREEDOM
SELFLESS AND UN-COMPROMISED
AS IT RISES ALL AROUND US
THROUGH A FATHER’S HEART
AND IN A MOTHER’S EYES

HE SINGS
AHAM VISHVAM IDAM VICHITRAM
AHAM VISHVAM IDAM VICHITRAM
I AM THIS WONDERFUL UNIVERSE.

January 12, 2010

On this auspicious day of Jan. 12th we celebrate all the knowledge that we have so graciously been given. Pashya means
“see” and in this new year may we all be blessed with the ability to “see” ourselves and the world as we truly are –
one voice, one breath, one heartbeat, one divine soul.
